In 2010, Paul and Laura Vancas, envisioned an event that would combine their love of the classic Volkswagen and the immense love for their special needs Grandsons, Gabriel and Alexander. This vision is what lead them to the creation of "Volkstock". Volkstock is a two-day charitable event for all Volkswagen enthusiasts and their families.
The inspiration for finding a local charity to benefit from this event came from attending an event in the Sacramento area called the "Niello Volkswagen Ranch Run". We were in awe of what the Ride to Walk Program was able to do for individuals with physical, developmental and emotional challenges. We needed to find a similar program in Northern California to be the beneficiary for our event. To our surprise there was one in a neighboring city. Our beneficiary of choice is Handi-Riders of Northern California. Handi-Riders is a Therapeutic Riding Center that is located in Oroville, Ca. Handi-Riders was started in Butte County in 1981. They are a NARHA member and a Premier Accredited Operating Center. Their program is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as an acceptable form of therapeutic activity for the physically, developmentally and emotionally challenged.
This year the Volkstock event will be held in Chico, CA. The location will be announced soon.
We could not make this event a success without the assistance or our generous sponsors, the participating VW owners and the many volunteers from the North Valley Volks Club. Please browse our website for information on participating in Volkstock and sponsorship opportunities. On behalf of the Handi-Riders Organization and the staff of Volkstock, we thank you for making our annual event a success.
With sincere appreciation,
Paul and Laura Vancas
